Uncle Robbie's House

Another view of his old house.

Meriden House

Our house in Meriden. They added an addition to the front of it. And all the tree's are huge. We planted them, so we never got to enjoy seeing them full grown. Nice to see that the owners are taking care of the house.

The Pond

In front of our Meriden House. It's about twice as big. Looks Good

Meriden House

Closer view. When we built it, it was one of the first BERM style houses in the area. Now it seems they are everywhere. But we were one of the First!

Meriden House

I like what they did to the mailbox. Nice.

View of the Big Old Trees around it. What a change. For The Better

View of downtown while crossing the Kansas River.

Sumner Elementary

Before we moved to Meriden, we lived in Topeka, after moving from Silver Lake. I attended school at Sumner Elementary. It's closed now, but it is listed as a national landmark.

Sumner Elementary

National Landmark

Sumner is considered a national landmark because it was involved in the Brown VS Board of Education court decision which led to school de-segregation in the 1950s.

Kindergarten Entrance

My brother actually went to Kindergarten here. I remember once my Grandma Ivy showed up and was waiting for me outside this door. Sad to see it all boarded up. Why can't people respect places?

Art Deco

Good example of the art deco styling of the building, which was built in 1935. I sure would like to walk around inside of it.

Sumner Elementary

Sad to see the graffiti and broken windows. They should be ashamed of letting it look like this.

Randy Dickson's House

Childhood friend of mine. They moved away from here before we moved away from Kansas. But I remember having sleepovers at his house.

Steven Force's House

Or rather, where it used to be. Seems they tore it down.

509 Polk Street

Many fond childhood memories here. I remember walking to Sumner school on cold winter days. Was entirely green when we lived here. The current owners have it all junked up now...fence in the front..enclosed porch. KInda Sad. Funny how the same old antenna is in the front.

Jesse

Neighbor at 507, still living there! They've been living there for like 30 years! Do People actually do that? She remembered me.

Back of the House

Back of the Polk Street house. Can't really see anything, except that the old porch that was screened in is not like that anymore. My mom and dad used to sleep in it in the hot summers. We DIDNT have air conditioning.

Mike's Frame Shop

Friend of my Dad's. Shop is still there and in business.

Dad's First Shop

When My father started his own business, that was the reason we moved from Silver Lake, so they could use the money to start his own business. Anyway, this was where it was. Looks pretty much the same except the old house next door is gone.

Dad's "New" Shop

After a few years my father moved his shop down the street into this location. When they decided to move to Arkansas they sold the business to one of his workers. They kept the name. "Smith Brothers"
